Eurostat is a directorate-general of the European Commission located in Luxembourg with the responsibility to provide statistical information to the institutions of the European Union (EU).  It is responsible for promoting the harmonization of statistical methods across member states, accession candidates and EFTA countries.

Eurostat statistics are distributed and available free of charge via the Internet.  Various publications are also available on the Internet or in printed form via the EU bookshop.

Eurostat is also engaged in statistical cooperation with third countries in and around Europe through the European Statistical System, EU Enlargement Policy, and European Neighbourhood Policy.
